Oliver Glasner recognized that his Crystal Palace team “lacked quality” following a stunning FA Cup upset by Macclesfield.
The non-league team achieved a remarkable 2-1 victory at Moss Rose on Saturday, eliminating the defending champions in the third round.
Paul Dawson, named Player of the Match, put the hosts ahead just before halftime, and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts extended their lead in the second half.
Yeremy Pino scored a well-placed free kick late in the match, but it was merely a consolation as Palace were eliminated by a team from the sixth tier.
Glasner frustrated as Macclesfield stuns Crystal Palace
“Congratulations to Macclesfield,” Glasner stated to BBC Sport after the match.
“We didn’t show any quality today. Allowing a header from a set-play was unacceptable; we needed to do better. The second goal was chaotic.
“If you can’t create clear chances, it reflects a lack of quality from us today. We lost, and we deserved it.
“I expected more from everyone. I introduced more attackers at halftime, but I can’t explain what I witnessed today.
“In these situations, tactics aren’t enough. You need to showcase your abilities and a sense of pride, which we failed to do today.”
