Gotham FC will host the Washington Spirit in Queens on July 15.

The current National Women’s Soccer League champions announced the match, called the “Queen City Classic,” will take place at Citi Field, New York City. The game starts at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN, with CarMax as the sponsor.

Citi Field is home to the New York Mets and New York City FC. Gotham currently plays at Red Bull Arena, where they share facilities with MLS’ New York Red Bulls.

Ryan Dillon, Chief Business Officer of Gotham FC, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its importance for women’s sports and athletes as the focus turns to New York this summer.

Kim Stone, CEO of the Washington Spirit, stated that the rivalry with Gotham deserves a prominent venue.

“Citi Field is ideal for this matchup, which is one of the most exciting in the NWSL,” Stone said. “Playing in New York just before the World Cup final is significant. New Yorkers recognize important moments, and this is one of them.”

Sarah Jones Simmer, NWSL Chief Operating Officer, noted the match as a significant occasion for the league and women’s soccer in New York. She emphasized the importance of having reigning champions Gotham FC face off against the Washington Spirit at such a notable venue.

Katie Haas, Executive Vice President of Ballpark Operations for the New York Mets, expressed excitement about hosting women’s soccer at Citi Field. She highlighted the honor of providing a platform for these talented athletes.

Gotham and Washington last met in the NWSL Championship in 2025, where Gotham won with a crucial goal from Rose Lavelle. They will also play again on October 17 at Audi Field for their final regular season match in 2026.
