Pep Guardiola praised his team’s performance after Manchester City defeated Arsenal to win the Carabao Cup.

Nico O’Reilly scored twice, securing victory for City at Wembley. With this win, Guardiola set a new record by claiming his fifth League Cup title.

This win was a strong response following City’s disappointing exit from the Champions League earlier in the week against an Arsenal team currently nine points ahead in the Premier League.

Guardiola acknowledged the challenge of catching up to Arsenal in the title race but commended his team for overcoming the Gunners, who he says have become “almost unbeatable” under Mikel Arteta.

“Winning a trophy is important,” he told Sky Sports. “It was special because we had a tough couple of weeks. What they achieved in the Champions League is very difficult. In the first 15 minutes, they pressured us hard. After that, we began to regain control and play our game.”

“I’m very pleased because Mikel has built a team that is nearly unbeatable. Winning the Carabao Cup for the fifth time in ten years is significant. Each title we win seems harder than the last due to various challenges,” he added. “We are not the team we were in the past or like Arsenal is now, but we always find ways to win titles.”
