Pep Guardiola shared his conversation with Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali after Manchester City‘s 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Tonali has been in the spotlight recently, especially with transfer rumors linking him to Arsenal on the deadline day. Reports about the interest came from a third-party source, but both Arsenal and Tonali’s agent have denied any official approach.
Guardiola approached Tonali right after the match to speak with him.
Both Manchester City and Manchester United have shown interest in signing Tonali, who is estimated to be worth around £100 million.
Guardiola mentioned that he knows Tonali’s father and is aware of Tonali’s contentment at St James’ Park.
“What did I say to Sandro Tonali? My Italian is perfect, so I can communicate with him,” Guardiola noted.
“We have a great mutual friend from Brescia, Edoardo Piovani. Whenever we connect, I always talk to his father about his time in Milan and how happy he is in Newcastle. He is an exceptional player!”
