Independiente has appointed Gustavo Quinteros as their new head coach following the exit of Julio Vaccari, as reported by Bolavip. The 59-year-old has signed a contract that runs until December 2026. Due to timing, his debut is likely to be in the Avellaneda derby against Racing, rather than in this weekend’s match against San Lorenzo.

Quinteros takes over a struggling team. Independiente has not won since June 29, when they beat Gimnasia de Mendoza in the Copa Argentina. Since then, the team has managed only two wins against five losses, in addition to a setback in the Copa Sudamericana. The club’s management believes Quinteros can stabilize the situation and bring back winning ways.

His last coaching role was at Gremio, where he managed 17 matches, achieving 10 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses. Previously, he led Vélez to a successful campaign, winning the 2024 Liga Profesional title with 28 victories, 13 draws, and 9 losses. However, he faced challenges in crucial matches, losing three finals—twice to Estudiantes and once to Central Córdoba.

This marks Quinteros’ second stint as a head coach in Argentina. If he is unable to lead the team against San Lorenzo, his first official match might be the high-stakes Avellaneda derby at Racing’s stadium, an intense start to his new role.
