Viktor Gyokeres praised Max Dowman after the young player scored his first senior goal, helping Arsenal defeat Everton on Saturday evening.

The 16-year-old came on for Martin Zubimendi in the second half, bringing new energy to Arsenal’s attack.

In the 93rd minute, Dowman delivered a cross that Piero Hincapie redirected to Gyokeres, allowing him to score from close range.

As Everton sought an equaliser, Dowman sprinted the length of the pitch to score into an empty net, with Jordan Pickford pushing forward for the Toffees.

“He usually makes the right decisions, and you saw that with his contribution to the goal. He’s an amazing player with a great goal.

“We support him just like we do for everyone on the team. That’s essential for our success.”

Gyokeres also made an impact after coming on as a substitute for Kai Havertz. When asked about Arteta’s instructions, he said: “We were given information to execute the plan we discussed before the match.

“We aimed to change the game and secure the win. We took our chances, and I think we succeeded.”

The atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium was tense before Gyokeres’ goal, with fans worried about Manchester City potentially closing the gap. Instead, Arsenal extended their lead to ten points ahead of City’s match with West Ham.

He added: “Every victory matters. We strive to perform our best and can’t control other teams’ results.

“We’re in a good spot. Now, we aim to enjoy these moments.”
