Erling Haaland is not at full fitness after coming off at halftime during Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Fulham on Wednesday due to an injury concern.
The striker scored City’s third goal just before halftime but did not return for the second half, being replaced by Omar Marmoush.
Pep Guardiola later mentioned that the Norway player had some issues and felt uncomfortable, attributing it to either fatigue or something similar.
Update on Erling Haaland’s injury after being substituted at halftime
In a press conference ahead of City’s FA Cup fourth round match against Salford City, Guardiola shared an update on Haaland’s condition. He stated that while the 25-year-old might not play this weekend, it is not a significant problem.
“Erling is not 100 per cent,” the coach said. “We will assess how he feels today. The doctor informed me it is not a serious matter, but he experienced some discomfort during the game, which is why he didn’t play in the second half.
“We will determine today whether he will participate tomorrow.”
John Stones may also play against Salford after returning to the matchday squad midweek. He has been out due to a thigh injury sustained during the 5-4 win over Fulham on December 2nd.
“Fortunately, it has been a long two months,” Guardiola said. “The last match he played was against Leeds away. He has completed two or three training sessions, and we will see tomorrow how many minutes he can play.”
Guardiola also noted that his squad is feeling “very exhausted both physically and mentally” due to a packed schedule.
“Our priority is to defeat Salford and advance to the next round,” he said when asked about reaching another FA Cup final. “In recent years, we have aimed for finals, even though we missed out on winning the last two. Being there is always a success. I keep that in mind.
“Hopefully, after tomorrow’s match, we can take a short break, as we are very exhausted from the numerous games over the past months.”
