England secured a 2-0 victory over Albania in their final FIFA World Cup group match. This win means England finished their qualifying campaign with a perfect record, winning all eight of their games in the group. Despite the defeat, Albania finished in second place, securing a spot in the World Cup play-offs. Albania’s defence held strong for a significant part of the match, keeping England from scoring for the first 74 minutes while also creating a few chances themselves.
The breakthrough came in the 74th minute. Harry Kane scored from a chance created by a corner from substitute Bukayo Saka. Later, in the 82nd minute, the England captain scored again with a header from a cross by another substitute, Marcus Rashford, to confirm the win. For Kane, who is in excellent form, this was his 28th goal of the season for his club and country. In the group’s other fixture, Serbia defeated Latvia 2-1.
