Inter midfielder shares insights about his time with José Mourinho.
A significant disagreement impacted their relationship.
Details: In his autobiography, 36-year-old Armenian Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan discusses his experience with José Mourinho during their time at Manchester United, including the reasons for their fallout:
“You’ve been criticizing me for two years, you’re not good!” He responded, “I don’t want to see you anymore.” During training, he wouldn’t speak to me, but each evening he would message: “Leave, so I can get Alexis.”
Every night he would WhatsApp me: “Miki, please leave.” The situation deteriorated. I kept sending the same response: “If I leave, I need to find the right team, otherwise I’ll wait until summer.”
By January, his messages shifted to “Miki, please leave so I can get Alexis.” That’s when I changed my reply—I began saying: “I’m not leaving just to please you, and I ask that you stop texting me. Talk to Mino (Raiola) if you want.”
Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Manchester United in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund for €42 million. While in Manchester, he played 63 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists before moving to Arsenal in 2018 for €34 million.
