Footem.in – Bayern Munich is determined to hold on to their star centre-back, Dayot Upamecano. The Bundesliga giants are actively pushing forward with negotiations for a new contract with the French international, potentially dashing Real Madrid’s hopes of acquiring him.
Dayot Upamecano’s future has been a hot topic, especially as his current contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season.
Real Madrid emerged as a potential suitor, as the Spanish capital club looks to bolster their defensive line next year.
Contract Extension Imminent
However, in a development concerning for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich is focused on keeping Upamecano, according to BBC Sport.
The club wants the 27-year-old to sign a new deal soon and is in advanced talks regarding an extension.
Upamecano, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any club in January 2026.
Real Madrid faces stiff competition for the Guinea-Bissau-born player, as his former club, RB Leipzig, wants him back, along with interest from PSG, Liverpool, and Chelsea.
Bayern Munich is working hard to retain their key defender and is increasingly confident that he will commit to a new contract with the Bundesliga champions.
Currently, according to BBC Sport, positive discussions have taken place between Upamecano and the Bavarian club, who are very hopeful that Upamecano will sign a new contract as quickly as possible.
This would be a blow to Real Madrid, who reportedly prioritised Upamecano for their defence after rejecting Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and moving away from Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
With Upamecano close to extending his contract at Bayern Munich, it remains to be seen whether Madrid will reignite their interest in Konate or Guehi, or pursue a new target.
