Club Sport Herediano has quickly appointed Jafet Soto as head coach following the dismissal of Hernán Medford on Sunday. This change comes after a poor run that included a loss to Puntarenas, elimination from the Central American Cup in the group stage, and a drop to seventh place in the Liga Promérica.
Medford’s time in charge lasted only nine matches, marked by inconsistent results. The team did not meet expectations in both local and international competitions, leading the board to part ways with him.
Soto’s return as head coach is not surprising. He previously served as interim coach in 2024 and earlier this year after Pablo Salazar’s exit, including a notable win over Alajuelense. He will aim to stabilize the team and keep their championship hopes alive.
Interestingly, Soto had recently mentioned health issues that would prevent him from coaching, stating, “I’m retired from the benches. I need to rest; I have a heart condition I cannot neglect.” Despite this, the urgency of the situation has led to his return. He will face Guadalupe on September 27 at Estadio Carlos Alvarado, looking to guide the team back into playoff contention.
