East Bengal, the champion of the Indian Women’s League, aims to maintain its strong performance under coach Anthony Andrews as it competes against Hong Kong’s Kitchee in the AFC Women’s Champions League preliminary round on Sunday.

The team recently won its first top-flight title and began the preliminary round with a 1-0 victory over Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown, with Fazila Ikwaput scoring the decisive goal.

The Moshal Girls have added several new players this summer and hope to join Odisha FC as the second Indian team to reach the Champions League group stage, following Odisha’s success last season.

How can East Bengal qualify for the AFC Women’s Champions League?

East Bengal is competing alongside Phnom Penh Crown and Kitchee in this preliminary stage.

In a recent match, Phnom Penh Crown and Kitchee drew 3-3, which puts East Bengal in a favorable position.

Here’s how East Bengal can qualify for the group stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League:

If East Bengal draws or wins:

The Kolkata team will qualify regardless of the results in the other groups.

If East Bengal loses:

East Bengal will need to wait for the outcomes in the other four groups to see if it can be the best runner-up among the second-placed teams. Only then will it secure a spot in the group stage.
