Michael Carrick has been named interim manager of Manchester United through the end of the 2025/26 season. Reports indicated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a strong candidate for the position before a last-minute decision shifted the choice.
Darren Fletcher took over as the team leader following Ruben Amorim’s departure, but he was not considered a long-term option.
The club opted for an interim manager until the season’s conclusion, and there were early signs that Solskjaer had engaged in favorable discussions about a return to Old Trafford.
Even though the former Norwegian manager was reportedly receptive to a comeback, Manchester United announced on Tuesday evening that Carrick would lead the team for the remainder of the season.
Despite some support for Solskjaer among fans, Ineos ultimately preferred Carrick, primarily due to a key request Solskjaer made during their discussions.
