Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has acknowledged that he is not performing well enough and noted that few players are currently at their best.

This statement follows a 3-2 loss at home to Brentford, despite Newcastle taking an early lead.

Sven Botman scored first with a header from a corner, but Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt equalized. Igor Thiago converted a penalty to give Brentford the lead before halftime.

Late in the second half, Bruno Guimaraes equalized with a penalty, but Dango Ouattara secured the win for Brentford by squeezing the ball through Nick Pope’s legs.

The defeat adds to a tough week for Newcastle, who lost to Liverpool and were eliminated from the League Cup by Manchester City earlier in the week.

The club is now close to the relegation zone, with the fans expressing their frustration by booing at half-time and full-time.

“I always feel under pressure, regardless of what kind,” Howe said in his post-match comments.

“In this role, there’s constant pressure to win and improve results. Right now, we need to focus on the latter.

“I set high standards for myself and expect the same from my players.

“I recognize I’m not doing my job effectively at the moment.

“I’m frustrated and taking full responsibility for the results. No one else.”

On his players, Howe stated: “I need them to be honest and evaluate their own performances against their best levels.

“I don’t think many are performing at their peak, which highlights the need for improvement.”

When asked about the crowd’s reaction, Howe said: “If we perform well, the fans will support us. They are responding to our performance, and it’s something we need to address.”
