Eddie Howe acknowledged that Newcastle United is adjusting to life after Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool during the summer window.

The club received an initial payment of £125 million, which could increase to £130 million, for the striker on deadline day after he left St. James’ Park.

Newcastle spent a total of £124 million on Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to fill the gaps left by Isak and Callum Wilson.

This Saturday evening, Liverpool will host Newcastle at Anfield, but Isak will not play due to a leg injury sustained against Spurs in late December.

Howe discusses Isak’s departure before facing Liverpool

In the lead-up to the match, Howe stated that incorporating the new forwards without Isak is “an ever-challenging thing.”

“Losing a player like Alex impacts the team. Liverpool paid a high fee because he’s an exceptional talent. We appreciated our time with him,” he said.

“He was a key player. His absence changes team dynamics, and we need to find ways to keep the team effective without trying to replace him directly.”

“We’re still navigating this transition and have been working on it throughout the season. The new players are performing well.”

“We are still figuring out how to maximize their potential despite limited training time together.”

“We’ve utilized video analysis and discussions, but nothing compares to hands-on training.”

“The new players are dedicated to giving their best, and we are adapting accordingly.”

Howe also commended Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, who chose to move to Liverpool for £69 million instead of joining Newcastle.

“He’s an outstanding player. I’ve admired him for a long time and attempted to sign him twice,” he noted.

“He possesses great movement, can score with both feet, excels in the air, and handles the ball well. He’s a significant talent.”
