Eddie Howe has stated that it is still uncertain if Bruno Guimaraes will play in Newcastle’s match against Liverpool this weekend.
Newcastle is set to visit Anfield on Saturday night, a crucial game for their chances of finishing in the top four. They are currently ninth in the league but could level with sixth-placed Liverpool with a victory.
However, Guimaraes’s situation adds uncertainty. The Brazilian midfielder has missed the last two matches, and Howe is unsure if he will be fit to play, even though he trained on Thursday.
“It’s still unknown. He did well to join us in Paris. He was eager to be there and support us,” Howe said. “He trained with us yesterday, but that was more of a test. We will make a decision today.”
Howe aims for Guimaraes to be available, as Newcastle has struggled without him. The captain has missed nine Premier League games since joining Newcastle from Lyon in February 2022, and the team has not won any of those matches.
