Eddie Howe praised Yoane Wissa after his key contribution in Newcastle’s 3-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven.

Newcastle moved into the Champions League’s top eight with a convincing win against the Dutch champions at St James’ Park.

Wissa stood out in the match, scoring the first goal just eight minutes in. He also assisted the second goal, regaining possession in a critical area and setting up Anthony Gordon to increase the lead.

His clever run later allowed Harvey Barnes to score the third goal after halftime, which earned further commendation from head coach Howe.

The DR Congo striker has faced challenges since his £55m transfer from Brentford this summer, having missed a large part of the season due to injury.

“It’s been a tough start for him here,” Howe said.

“Getting a serious injury right before your first training session is mentally tough for any new player.

“It took a while to get him close to his best, and I believe he has more to offer.”

“Tonight was a big night for him, as this is why he joined the club – for moments like these. I’m glad he made a positive impact.”

“Wissa’s time at Brentford was impressive from my perspective. He was fantastic, scoring important goals,” Howe added.
