Óscar Ibáñez recently spoke to Teledeportes about his exit from Peru’s national team, confirming disagreements between FPF president Agustín Lozano and football director Jean Ferrari. The Argentine coach mentioned that while Lozano wanted him to stay for the October and November friendlies, Ferrari disagreed, leading to his departure.

“My contract ended with the last match. The president asked me to stay for the friendlies, and I agreed. We met after that, Lozano confirmed his proposal, but Ferrari had a different opinion. At that point, it made no sense to continue,” Ibáñez said.

He stated he didn’t feel betrayed by Lozano but would have liked a more careful approach. “I didn’t feel betrayed by Lozano. I’ve been in football for many years, and I know how these situations unfold. I believe in order for things to work. Given the circumstances, the best option was to part ways to avoid any misunderstandings,” he added.

Ibáñez, 58, expressed gratitude to the federation for the chance to lead Peru in a tough time and stressed the need for mutual agreement in decision-making. During his time with the Blanquirroja, his record included six World Cup qualifiers: three losses, two draws, and one win.
