Club competitions are currently paused due to international matches as the World Cup 2026 qualifiers are in progress. Icardi has not been called up for Argentina’s national team due to a personal dispute.
Following the exit of former captain and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera this summer, Icardi has assumed the captaincy at Galatasaray. He recently returned to the field after a lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury that kept him out for almost a year.
This season, the Argentine player has come off the bench in three matches in the Turkish Super Lig and has scored twice.
