Independiente has faced another court setback. As reported by Olé, Argentina’s Commercial Court of Appeals has ordered the Avellaneda club to pay San Telmo 20% of Alan Franco’s transfer to Atlanta United in 2021, along with 7% interest, totaling over $550,000.
This issue began in March 2021 when Franco transferred to Major League Soccer for around $2.8 million, with Independiente selling 50% of his rights. San Telmo, Franco’s original club, claimed training compensation. Despite a hearing in 2023, Independiente did not make the payment, leading the court to rule in favor of San Telmo.
The initial claim of $474,000 has grown due to interest, further complicating Independiente’s already difficult financial situation. Already facing debts and sporting issues, the club must now deal with this new financial obligation.
