Julio Vaccari has resigned as head coach of Independiente after a 1-0 loss to Banfield. This marks the fourth managerial change since Néstor Grindetti became club president, highlighting ongoing instability in Avellaneda.

Vaccari, who had a promising background from Defensa y Justicia, did not meet expectations. He managed to secure only 2 points from 21 in the Clausura and faced an early exit from the Copa Sudamericana. His overall record stands at 25 wins, 19 draws, and 17 losses from 61 matches.

The turmoil began in November 2022 when Leandro Stillitano was appointed during the World Cup. His time in charge saw only one win in eight matches, yielding a 33 percent win rate. He was succeeded by Ricardo Zielinski, who led the team through 18 matches, collecting 22 points from 54, with a 6-4-8 record.

Carlos Tevez took over in August 2023 and achieved better results, with 14 wins, 12 draws, and six losses, amounting to a 56 percent success rate. However, he resigned before completing a year, adding to the club’s challenges.

Now, Vaccari’s exit exacerbates the situation, prompting the board to look for a permanent solution. Gustavo Quinteros is a leading candidate, recently available after a brief period at Gremio and recognized for successful tenures with Colo Colo and Vélez Sarsfield.
