AIFF to Announce New Indian Football Team Head Coach on August 1

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is set to unveil the new head coach for the Indian men’s football team on August 1. After a rigorous selection process, the federation has narrowed down the list of 170 applicants to three prominent names: Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine, and Stefan Tarkovic.

A Rigorous Selection Process

The AIFF’s Technical Committee, led by I. M. Vijayan, shortlisted the candidates during a meeting on July 22. The committee reviewed the credentials of 20 coaches—10 Indian and 10 foreign—before finalizing the top three contenders. The final decision will be made during an emergency meeting of the AIFF Executive Committee.

The Top Contenders

  1. Khalid Jamil: A celebrated Indian coach, Jamil led Aizawl FC to an I-League title in 2017 and guided Jamshedpur FC to the Indian Super League semifinals last season. His domestic success makes him a strong candidate for the role.
  2. Stephen Constantine: A familiar name in Indian football, Constantine previously coached the national team, elevating its FIFA ranking from 173 to 97 in just three years. His experience and proven track record could be pivotal for the team’s future.
  3. Stefan Tarkovic: The Slovakian coach is the only new face in Indian football among the finalists. Tarkovic has international experience, having coached Kyrgyzstan to the 2023 Asian Cup. His global perspective could bring fresh strategies to the team.

The Road Ahead for Indian Football

The Indian men’s football team has been without a head coach since July 2, following Manolo Marquez’s departure. The new coach will face the immediate challenge of improving the team’s performance in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, where India currently sits at the bottom of Group C.

A New Era for Indian Football

The AIFF’s decision will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Indian football. Fans eagerly await the announcement, hoping the new coach will bring success and elevate the team’s global standing.

Stay tuned for the official announcement on August 1, as Indian football takes a significant step forward.
