Manchester United have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions this season.

This means Manchester United will now concentrate solely on the Premier League for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

Michael Carrick will take over as interim head coach until the season concludes, while Jason Wilcox aims to secure Champions League qualification.

The silver lining is that with no European or cup matches, the team can dedicate all efforts to league games. However, this could change if Ineos advances with their mid-season plans.

Ineos may have identified a suitable time for Man Utd’s mid-season tour

In October, it was reported that United were considering mid-season friendlies to help address the financial gap from missing out on European competitions.

Ruben Amorim was receptive to this idea, acknowledging the need for the club to mitigate losses following their Europa League final exit.

Their 2-1 defeat to Brighton means United are also out of the FA Cup, resulting in a clear schedule for the remaining season.

Journalist James Ducker noted there is a gap in fixtures between February 10 and February 23, which Ineos could utilize for a tour.

There is also a break from March 4 to March 14, but the timings for matches during this period are yet to be confirmed. One possibility being explored is a trip to Saudi Arabia for friendlies, which could proceed now with no cup matches left.

Ineos aims to boost United’s matchday revenue

The situation for United is challenging, as they are on track to play only 40 matches this season—the lowest since the 1914/15 season.

In 2024/25, the club reached the Europa League final and generated record matchday revenues of £160m.

This year paints a different picture. Without European matches and only two domestic cup games, matchday earnings are projected to decrease significantly.

Mid-season friendlies are estimated to generate about £10m, providing Ineos with a way to offset some financial losses.

However, these extra matches come with risks, as they might lead to injuries or disrupt any rhythm the team establishes throughout the season.
