Inter Milan is in a close race for the Scudetto in Serie A, currently ahead of rivals AC Milan and last season’s champions Napoli, making this a competitive season.
The team is looking to strengthen its roster after Denzel Dumfries’ injury. Joao Cancelo, currently with Al Hilal from the Saudi Pro League, is a target for Inter, Barcelona, and other top European clubs.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed their interest in Cancelo, noting the challenge of his high salary. He also mentioned that Al Hilal is seeking a center back in return:
“João Cancelo has a huge salary, we are in talks to understand the situation. We need a new RB. Al Hilal want a new centre back… we will see.”
Romano also indicated that Inter may consider offloading veteran center backs Stefan de Vrij or Francesco Acerbi, the latter being pivotal in last season’s Champions League run, to facilitate a deal with Al Hilal for Cancelo.
