Details: According to Diario Sport, Benfica in Lisbon has given the player an ultimatum: either he extends his contract until 2031 with a higher release clause, or he will be sold this summer. The club is in a tough spot—the current contract with the 21-year-old Norwegian lasts until 2028, and they do not want to lose him, especially after his strong performances, including two goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Reports suggest Barcelona is closely watching the situation and have stepped up their inquiries. Schelderup is on their list as they look for a young and cost-effective winger under 23. If they cannot secure Marcus Rashford, Schelderup will be their main focus, and the player is willing to wait for Barcelona’s offer, as he prefers them over other clubs.
The financial terms are attractive for Laporta. Although the official release clause is €100 million, Benfica may settle for around €20 million—a significant decrease from January, when they rejected a €12 million bid from Club Brugge.
