Is Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Al Nassr vs Rio Ave today, August 7?

Al Nassr face Rio Ave today in another friendly for the pre-season. Here’s what to know about Cristiano Ronaldo’s status for the match.

Saudi Pro League giants Al Nassr will face Portuguese side Rio Ave in a friendly match at Estadio Algarve tonight as part of their ongoing preseason campaign. Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in their last friendly against Toulouse, the Portuguese star is expected to feature in tonight’s match.

Although the club has yet to officially confirm his participation, Ronaldo appeared to hint at it in an Instagram story posted on Wednesday. The forward shared a photo of himself training, along with the caption: “See you tomorrow in Algarve!”

After months of speculation, Ronaldo has opted to remain in Saudi Arabia, extending his contract with Al Nassr through 2027. Despite his efforts, he has yet to win an official trophy since his arrival in the Middle East.

Al Nassr, however, has been active in the transfer market, bringing in new talent such as João Félix, Ronaldo’s compatriot. The 25-year-old, recently on loan at Chelsea, made his debut for the club in the friendly against Toulouse.

Ronaldo’s form in 2025

At 40 years old, Ronaldo continues to be one of Al Nassr’s top scorers. Across 26 official matches for club and country this year, he has netted 22 goals this year. He has provided one assist.

While silverware has remained out of reach in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo recently helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League, scoring the crucial equalizer to keep their title hopes alive. It marked his third international trophy, following victories in Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League.

What’s next for Al Nassr?

Al-Nassr will be keen to shake off any early rust before the 2025–26 campaign gets into full swing. Their first official fixture is fast approaching, as they face Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final on August 19.

Last season, the ex-Real Madrid star ended the year as the league’s top goal scorer and will be aiming to replicate that feat. Still, his primary goal remains securing a major trophy.
