A lack of match fitness is affecting performance.
While many players trained with their teams over the summer, striker Alexander Isak only participated in individual sessions, missing all preseason activities. This has impacted his chances of debuting for Liverpool.
Details: As reported by FourFourTwo, Isak played just 18 minutes for the Swedish national team during the international break. This means Arne Slot may not include him in the starting lineup for upcoming matches against Burnley on September 14 and Atlético on September 17.
There were hopes that Isak would start for Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers, but head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson chose Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga and Arsenal‘s Viktor Gyökeres for the attack instead. With the upcoming Champions League opener and Hugo Ekitike’s current form, Slot is unlikely to take any chances.
Reminder: Earlier reports indicated that Liverpool will not pursue Marc Guéhi in the winter transfer window.
