Alexander Isak is nearing his return from a broken leg, according to Arne Slot’s injury update on Tuesday.
The Swedish striker has been out since December due to a fractured fibula that required surgery.
This week, he participated in individual training as he prepares for Liverpool’s Champions League match against Galatasaray on Wednesday.
Isak ‘closer’ to return, Liverpool injury update provided
Slot did not specify a return date but confirmed that Isak will not play in the upcoming match against Galatasaray or this weekend’s Premier League game against Brighton.
“Alex is not available for tomorrow, but seeing him on the pitch shows he is getting closer to returning,” the Dutchman stated in his pre-match press conference.
“There’s no specific timeframe, and he won’t be available for Saturday either. He hasn’t trained with the team yet, and returning to team training is a big step. Transitioning from individual sessions to team practice is challenging, especially when moving to match play in the Premier League or Champions League.”
Ibrahima Konate is expected to return after missing the previous game against Tottenham due to a hamstring injury. Joe Gomez may also join the matchday squad despite missing training on Tuesday.
“[Konate] is fully fit now; he no longer feels any discomfort,” Slot mentioned. “He’s ready to start and hopefully play the full 90 minutes or longer if necessary.”
“[Gomez] wasn’t able to train today. He had several issues after the last game, although he faced issues after the Galatasaray match as well.
“He wasn’t intended to play against Tottenham, but Ibou felt discomfort in his hamstring, so we didn’t want to take any risks. Joe will attempt to train tomorrow.”
