América and Guadalajara will meet this Saturday at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes for another edition of El Súper Clásico, according to Infobae. This match in Week 8 of the Apertura 2025 season sees the two teams in very different shapes.
Before the game, América defender Israel Reyes added to the rivalry with sharp comments. “One game can’t save a season,” he stated when discussing Chivas’ difficulties. Reyes emphasized that América’s goal is “to reach the Final and win it,” rather than just focusing on beating their historical rival.
This long-standing rivalry, the most significant in Mexican soccer, has evolved over the years—from Chivas being dominant in the 1960s, to the balance seen in the 1990s, and América’s rise in recent years. This match will also see fans back in the stands after the stadium was closed to the public during Matchday 7 due to local authority issues.
On the pitch, the teams’ situations are quite different. América, led by André Jardine, is second in the table with 17 points, just behind Monterrey, and a win could take them to first place. Chivas, managed by Gabriel Milito, is at 16th with only four points from a win and a draw, needing a positive result to turn things around. With both pride and points on the line, Saturday’s Clásico is set to be intense from the kickoff.
