Major reforms ahead.
Italy did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina, prompting plans for significant changes.
Details: Sky Sports reports that an extensive overhaul of football in Italy is being prepared. A meeting is set to gather officials from all levels of Italian football, including coaches and players across different categories.
Additionally, a complete reform of the Italian Football Federation is on the table, which includes replacing the entire leadership, including the president. The matter has escalated to discussions with the country’s Minister of Sport.
It has also been confirmed that Gennaro Gattuso will step down as the national team’s coach following the penalty shootout loss to Bosnia.
Reminder: Italy will miss the World Cup for the third consecutive time, having failed to qualify for the 2018, 2022, and now the 2026 tournaments.
