Jack Grealish finally ended his 16-month goal drought in the Premier League as Manchester City beat Leicester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
City dominated the game from the outset and made it a one-sided affair, with Leicester managing just one shot that didn’t even find the target. Pep Guardiola’s relentless pressure paid off with an early goal from Grealish before Omar Marmoush doubled the lead to give City a comfortable lead at the interval.
In the second half, City relaxed their attack but continued to control the game with 81% of the possession. With Leicester unable to pose any real threat, City ran out comfortable winners until the final whistle was blown by referee Darren England.
Match Analysis
Manchester City completely dominated the game from the first second and had such a clear advantage that they didn’t need to be at their best.
Grealish’s early goal, City’s quickest in the Premier League this season, gave the hosts immediate control of the game. Leicester looked helpless, barely able to get out of their own half.
With such confidence, City patiently worked the ball around the Leicester penalty area, waiting for an opening to score again.
Meanwhile, Leicester again failed to find the back of the net, extending their poor run to seven Premier League games without a goal. The defeat is yet another example of a poor season for the Foxes, who have struggled up front and against the big teams.
Mathematically, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side can still survive in the Premier League, but with performances like this, relegation is looking increasingly inevitable for Leicester.
