Jérôme Boateng made an unexpected visit to FC Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva early yesterday morning. According to the newspaper SPORT, the former German defender, who retired in September, was not there to train but to begin a ten-day training period with Hansi Flick’s staff. The goal is to closely observe the working methods of the German coach and to understand the daily dynamics of the team. In a video shared by the club, Boateng was seen greeting his former teammate Robert Lewandowski and Flick, with whom he won a sextuple title at Bayern Munich in the 2019-2020 season.
After recently obtaining his B license, Boateng aims to gain more learning experiences by January to prepare for his future coaching career. His time at Barcelona, facilitated by his good relationship with Hansi Flick, is part of this journey. During this period, he is simply an observer within the staff, familiarizing himself with training methods, tactical preparations, and the overall functioning of the team. He had attempted a similar experience at Bayern, but some supporters strongly opposed it due to his legal issues, where his 2024 conviction for assault was later reduced on appeal to a simple warning without a criminal record.
