Manchester United is set to revamp its midfield, with Joao Gomes becoming a key target.
This summer, the team focused on strengthening its attack by signing Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.
Now, Cunha may reunite with Gomes, as a transfer from Wolves seems possible.
United’s primary targets include Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba, but any moves for them are unlikely until summer.
The trio is priced at £100 million each, making a January transfer unfeasible.
Therefore, other options like Joao Gomes, Ruben Neves, and James Garner are being considered for the winter window.
Gomes has given United a boost by showing preference for a Premier League team over other interested clubs like Atletico Madrid and Napoli.
According to Brazilian outlet GE Globo, while Napoli has inquired about Gomes, the player prefers to stay in England.
Wolves are reportedly valuing Gomes at around £43 million, which is significantly lower than Wharton, Anderson, or Baleba.
Nonetheless, United aims to stick to their transfer strategy, particularly with Michael Carrick serving as a caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.
They plan to pursue long-term targets only if they become available or if other clubs apply pressure.
Since Gomes is viewed more as an opportunity than a priority, it remains unclear if a move will happen in the coming weeks.
