Joe Gomez Shines in Liverpool’s Victory

Arne Slot praised Joe Gomez’s ‘outstanding’ performance in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory against Marseille.

Liverpool secured a significant step toward the Champions League’s last 16 with a 3-0 victory at The Stade Velodrome, thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, an own goal by Geronimo Rulli, and Cody Gakpo’s late strike.

This win moved Liverpool to fourth in the UCL table, putting them close to earning an automatic spot in the last 16.

Slot expressed satisfaction with his team’s ability to rebound from a series of frustrating league draws, extending their unbeaten streak to 13 matches across all competitions.

The manager specifically highlighted Joe Gomez, who excelled in a rare starting role. Gomez has started only seven times this season but performed well in the absence of Ibrahima Konate.

“The one I want to highlight is Joe Gomez because he hasn’t played much in the last one-and-a-half years,” Slot noted.

“He has faced injuries and was sometimes not chosen when fit. His few appearances were mainly in the League Cup and FA Cup. Tonight, he had an outstanding performance and played an important role in our 3-0 win.”
