The “Eagles” have quickly begun the search for a new coach following Bruno Lage’s departure.
Details: Journalist Pedro Almeida reports that Benfica is expected to announce the hiring of 62-year-old José Mourinho as their new head coach.
After Bruno Lage was let go due to a poor start in the Champions League against Qarabag, Benfica’s management acted swiftly to find a replacement, and they have turned to the experienced Mourinho, who has been without a job since leaving Fenerbahçe.
While there is no official contract yet, Almeida indicates that the details are being worked out and an announcement will be made soon.
Mourinho has a brief history with Benfica, having been in charge for a short period at the start of his coaching career during the 2000/2001 season, where he managed 10 matches over four months, achieving 5 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses.
Reminder: Fenerbahçe finds a replacement for Mourinho but he declines the offer.
