Carlos Alcaraz is entering the 2025 season without his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, as they parted ways earlier this month.
In 2023, there were signs of tension between Ferrero and Alcaraz’s team. Although they stayed together for some time after, things did not improve.
The breakup was not unexpected, as their relationship struggled to recover.
Ferrero may return to Alcaraz’s team in the future, but for now, Samuel Lopez will coach the world number one as he prepares for 2026.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov suggested that parental involvement might have contributed to Ferrero’s departure.
When asked whether Alcaraz made a mistake by letting Ferrero go, Kafelnikov said:
“The biggest mistake is when parents interfere with the process. I don’t know Carlos’s father personally, but I always preferred to make my own decisions.”
Kafelnikov also noted that there was a significant disagreement between Ferrero and Alcaraz’s father, which led to the split.
He stated, “I’ve always believed that such interference can negatively impact the player. Carlos is an adult; he should be making his own choices. It’s disappointing he didn’t tell his father: ‘This is my decision—we’ve been successful together.’”
Juan Carlos Ferrero played a key role in Carlos Alcaraz’s success
Details about the final discussions between Alcaraz’s camp and Ferrero may remain unclear.
There must have been significant issues to disrupt an otherwise strong partnership, especially considering what they could have achieved together.
At just 22, Alcaraz has already won six Grand Slam titles and is ranked first in the world. He also holds 24 ATP titles, and there’s no doubt that Ferrero was crucial in his ascent to these achievements.
