Kannur: Kannur Warriors Football Club has announced its team for the new season, aiming to win the title they narrowly missed in their first year. The official team and jersey launch for the second season of Super League Kerala took place at a major event on Payyambalam Beach.
Despite heavy rain, thousands of supporters gathered for the ceremony. Well-known football commentator Shaiju Damodaran introduced the team members to the enthusiastic crowd.
Popular film actor and the club’s celebrity partner, Asif Ali, joined club officials to unveil the new jersey. Goalkeeper and Kannur native Ubaid C.K., Spanish striker Adrián Sardinero, and Cameroonian player Ernestine Lavsamba were named as the captains for the season. Key figures at the event included Club Chairman Dr. Assan Kunji, Directors K.M. Varghese, Mibu Jose Nettikadan, C.A. Muhammed Salih, Kerala Football Association President Navas Meeran, Kannur District Football Association President Nisar, and Sporting Director Jual Jose.
Kannur Warriors Chairman Dr. Hassan Kunji announced that women and children under 12 can watch the team’s home matches for free. He stated that this initiative aims to attract more women and children in Kannur to the sport of football.
“I used to be a cricket fan, but coming to Kannur turned me into a football fanatic,” said film star and celebrity partner Asif Ali.
The event, which lasted for nearly four hours, also featured activities for the attendees, including a penalty shootout, ball juggling, and a bottle flip challenge, with prizes awarded to the winners. The program was concluded early due to the heavy downpour.
Free entry for women and children
Women and children under the age of 12 will be allowed free entry into the gallery for all of Kannur Warriors’ home matches at the Kannur Municipal Jawahar Stadium during the Super League Kerala. This was announced by Club Chairman Dr. Hassan Kunji at the team launch event. The offer will apply to the five home league matches Kannur Warriors are scheduled to play.
