In response to the news on social media, Khabib shared a message—not for Xabi Alonso, but for Real Madrid. “There is nothing like loyalty,” he stated in his Instagram story. “One year ago, they begged him. Now they let him go because of spoiled kids. Xabi, you are the best.”

The specific reasons behind their parting were not disclosed, but the relationship between Xabi and the club seemed strained. Before joining Real Madrid, where he played from 2009 to 2014, Alonso had a successful tenure at Bayer Leverkusen. He led the team to an unbeaten Bundesliga title and domestic double in the 2023-24 season. Consequently, Real Madrid had high hopes for Alonso as a successor to Carlo Ancelotti and offered him a multi-year contract, expecting him to bring his dynamic, possession-based approach to the team.
