Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has explained his team selection for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. He specifically touched upon the situation with defender Matthijs de Ligt.
“Sometimes, choosing the central defenders gives me a headache, and I have to make cuts. It is the least pleasant part of my job. I talk with Matthijs a lot. He gets feedback and understands what he needs to do to be on the team,” Koeman was quoted as saying by the Telegraaf portal.
This season, de Ligt has featured in 8 matches for the English club Manchester United. He has not recorded any goals or assists and has not received any cards.
