Kylian Mbappe Scores 31 Goals in La Liga, Officially Wins European Golden Shoe Trophy for 2024/2025 Season

Kylian Mbappé’s first season at Real Madrid has been full of ups and downs. After struggling to adapt at the beginning of the season and “disappearing” in important matches, Mbappé silenced his critics by becoming the Spanish League’s top scorer.

The French national team captain has scored 31 goals in total in the Spanish league from the 34 matches he has played in. He beat Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona, who came second with 27 goals.

Mbappé’s status as the top scorer in the Spanish League was further cemented when he won the Golden Boot trophy in the 2024/25 season. This makes him the player with the most goals in Europe’s top leagues, ahead of other great players.

According to OneFootball, on Monday (26 May), Mbappé’s 31 goals earned him a total of 62 points in the Golden Shoe standings. Each of his goals is worth two points because the Spanish league is one of the top five European competitions.

He has surpassed Victor Gyokeres, who is in second place with 39 goals in the Portuguese league. Although Gyokeres has scored more goals than Mbappé, the coefficient of the Portuguese league is far below that of the Spanish league, meaning Gyokeres’ total points fail to overtake Mbappé’s.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah, who plays for Liverpool in the Premier League, is in third place. Both Mbappé and Salah have a coefficient of two, but Salah has only managed to score 29 goals in the Premier League this season.

This is also the first time that Mbappé has won the Golden Shoe. Previously, his goal tally was always surpassed by other top players, including Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Luis Suárez.

Mbappé has also joined two other Real Madrid legends, Hugo Sánchez and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have also won the same award. Additionally, Mbappé is the first Real Madrid player to win this trophy since Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2014/15 season.
