Last season, Kylian Mbappé experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. After fulfilling his childhood dream of joining Real Madrid from PSG, the 26-year-old striker initially struggled to adapt. Despite scoring goals, his start was modest as he found his footing in this new environment. However, he gradually became more assertive, showing signs of getting used to Madrid’s play style and making a greater impact in his team’s victories.
Nonetheless, his efforts were not enough, as the Merengues did not clinch any major titles last season. Individually, the 2024-2025 campaign has been rewarding for the former INF Clairefontaine student. With 44 goals in 59 matches, the ex-Parisian has proven to be a prolific scorer. He was the top scorer in La Liga and also won his first Golden Shoe. This achievement delighted him as he received the trophy from the Spanish media outlet Marca on Friday. During the occasion, he also gave an interview to the Spanish journalists.
When asked about his pride in winning such a title, Mbappé expressed his joy and stated his aim to win it again next season: “Of course. Since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of scoring goals. Every kid who starts playing football dreams of scoring, scoring, and scoring again. Ultimately, it’s a very important reward that makes me very happy, but everyone knows that collective success is what matters most. I hope to win another Golden Shoe in the future, but more importantly, I hope we win the league. If we talk about my Golden Shoe and my league goals, my goal this year is to keep this momentum with the team. If we win the league and I get another Golden Shoe, I’ll be even happier than I am today.”
When he was later asked about his aspirations with Real Madrid and was compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappé took the opportunity to clarify his stance on these comparisons with his idol: “I don’t know how to answer that question. Everyone knows that Cristiano is the benchmark at Madrid, the number one. I’ve been here for a year and a half, and he was here for nine years. I can’t compare myself to what he has achieved; my journey is different. I want to carve out my own path, but being mentioned alongside Cristiano is already an honor. I focus solely on my own path, on helping the team, and on winning as many titles as possible.”
