On Saturday night, Real Madrid enjoyed a comfortable victory at their Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, defeating Valencia 4-0 without any trouble. Kylian Mbappé stood out, scoring the first two goals of the match, while Vinicius Jr was included in the starting lineup amid speculation over his recent performance during the Clasico.
Both players made headlines during the match. While Mbappé received praise for his double, Vinicius faced criticism, particularly for missing a penalty when Madrid was already leading 2-0. Although Mbappé was the designated penalty taker, he allowed Vinicius to take it, which ended up being saved by Julen Agirrezabala.
The decision by Mbappé has stirred controversy, with many commentators believing he should have taken the penalty himself. Renowned journalist Manolo Lama expressed, “For me, the guilty one is Mbappé. I said last year that he can’t distribute penalties like candy; this isn’t a schoolyard, it’s a professional football team.” Former Real Madrid player and consultant Poli Rincon echoed similar sentiments, stating, “In my opinion, it’s the coach’s fault. Xabi Alonso should step up and tell Mbappé that he is the one who should take the shot.”
Alonso responded to the situation after the match, saying, “We choose the penalty takers; Kylian is first but not the only one. Decisions are made. I prefer penalties to be scored. Kylian scored the first, and I would have liked us to score the second. Kylian remains the primary taker.” Ultimately, this incident seems to have affected Vinicius Jr more than Mbappé.
