Kylian Mbappé’s Strike at Orelsan Ignites Excitement in Stade Malherbe Caen!

Stade Malherbe Caen is not having the best of times. The club recorded its fourth consecutive winless match, ending in a disappointing 0-0 against Paris 13 Atletico during the 13th round of National, remaining in 10th place. It’s the seventh draw of the season for a team eager to return to Ligue 2 after last year’s struggles. Coach Maxime d’Ornano expressed frustration: “This draw doesn’t inspire much, given there were opportunities. The same scenario repeats itself; we face a very defensive opponent, especially in the second half. Our inability to score is hurting us.”

The press conference didn’t mention the clash between Kylian Mbappé, who owns 80% of SM Caen through Coalition Capital, and rapper Orelsan. This heated topic arose on Friday following the release of Orelsan’s new album, La fuite en avant. In his song La petite voix, he comments on his choices and mistakes, taking jabs at the Mbappé family: “Don’t pretend to love your city; it’s faded. It’s dead, which is why we call you Caennais. It’s filled with people you can’t even stand. Yeah, you’re going to ruin your city like the Mbappés.”

Timing Trouble

Mbappé replied swiftly on X: “You’re welcome to ‘save’ the city you love so much,” followed by: “The guy begged us to let him in with 1% without paying because he doesn’t have a dime but wants to keep the image of the nice kid from Normandy.” This response seems a bit out of touch and doesn’t grasp the joke, despite hints of frustration from the Madrid striker and his entourage. However, it tarnishes Mbappé’s first tweet about Caen since acquiring the club, as it criticizes a beloved local figure who expresses continuous support for SM Caen.

One club supporter remarked, “It’s sad. Orelsan is a significant celebrity in Caen. Kylian Mbappé made a huge mistake that will damage his image. If he thinks he can turn the Caen public against Orelsan, he will struggle; Orelsan is an idol. The song is a parody. To respond literally is tough.” Moreover, Brahim Thiam, not particularly favored by the Mbappé family, also criticized the 2018 World Cup champion’s message. “The punchline comes from a title by Orelsan that speaks of his alter ego, a voice that critiques everything, including family and friends—this isn’t a personal affair, Kyky… It’s unfortunate to expose the club to such a post.”

Supporters Have Made Their Choice

This clash comes at a difficult time for the club, which is in a precarious sporting situation after a disastrous season in Ligue 2. Just hours earlier, it was announced that 16 club employees were let go following the implementation of a job preservation plan. The club can no longer sustain the same lifestyle as the previous year at a higher level. The timing is particularly poor for the football star, who isn’t exactly held in high regard in Caen, having visited only once earlier this year. With existing discontent among Malherbistes fans, attacking a local star was yet another misstep by the Madrid player. For fans, the choice between the two is clear.
