The cordial relationship seems to have soured. Following Barcelona’s decision to rejoin the EFC (formerly known as ECA) and move away from the Super League project, tensions between the Spanish rivals have escalated. This situation is compounded by Real Madrid’s involvement in the Negreira case. This morning, Joan Laporta addressed the matter, confirming that while there is still some respect between the two clubs, the relations are strained.

“The reunion went well and was respectful. We were never married, so there can’t be a divorce. Relations are not good due to the mention of the ‘Negreira case,’ where irrelevant and inconclusive facts have been presented. The ongoing nature of the case generates interest, which we find uncomfortable, and the situation remains tense. We are eternal rivals and navigate this with respect. I chose not to discuss the match in Miami against Villarreal. We noticed early opposition from the AFE (the Spanish players’ association) and other clubs. I don’t think this will affect the competition,” he stated during an interview with Catalunya Ràdio.
