Le Havre: Lucas Beraldo Misses the Mark Again!

Can Lucas Beraldo handle playing for Paris Saint-Germain? This question arises, especially after his latest performance against Havre. Partnered with Illa Zabarnyi, with Marquinhos waiting to celebrate his 500th match, the former São Paulo player struggled yet again. His interventions were often off-timing, lacking decisiveness, and his performance fell short of expectations.

His missed tackle on Issa Soumaré’s swift move (25th minute) highlighted his lackluster day. Beyond that, the Piracicaba native exhibited alarming frailty during his 64 minutes on the pitch. He won only 2 of 8 duels and had a pass success rate of 80%, the lowest among his teammates, struggling against the Havre attackers.

A disappointing outing doesn’t concern Luis Enrique

Fortunately for Beraldo, Lucas Chevalier was ready to step up during the 13th round to counter his critics. Substituted by Lucas Hernandez shortly after the hour mark, the Brazilian international (5 caps) missed another chance to prove himself. This was his 8th start of the season in Ligue 1, yet at 1.86m, he remains unconvincing and is unlikely to disrupt the central defense hierarchy.

“Beraldo is very young, but he has a lot of experience and a strong personality. I particularly appreciate his ability to play with the ball and defend intelligently. I’m happy with him. Right now, he isn’t playing every match he wishes to, but that’s how it is in this team,” recently stated Luis Enrique regarding his player’s struggles. When asked about Beraldo’s inconsistent outing on Saturday night, the PSG coach remained unfazed.

“There are ups and downs for all players; I’m not worried. It’s a matter of managing it; players need to have confidence. It’s not easy to give a lot of matches to one player right now, but it’s normal to have these phases in a season. Whether it’s Beraldo, Gonçalo, or Mayulu, we can all do better, but we need everyone to win the titles we aim for. I’m not concerned,” he added. However, it remains to be seen if the former Spain coach will keep this perspective if his player continues such performances.
