Seattle Sounders secured the 2025 Leagues Cup with a 3-0 win over Inter Miami, but the match at Lumen Field was marred by a postgame fight, as reported by AppleTV. Cameras recorded Luis Suárez spitting at a Seattle staff member during the chaos that erupted just after the match ended.
The game, determined by goals from Osaze de Rosario, Alex Roldán, and Paul Rothrock, initially concluded without issue. However, tensions flared when Suárez confronted Obed Vargas, leading to Sergio Busquets throwing a punch at Vargas. This prompted a scuffle involving Maxi Falcón, Jackson Ragen, and Tomás Avilés, who was pushed to the ground by Jon Bell. Efforts by Benjamín Cremaschi and Reed Baker to intervene were unsuccessful.
The situation escalated when Suárez clashed with Gene Ramírez, a member of Seattle’s Team Security and Player Relocation department. Cameras captured the moment Suárez spat in Ramírez’s face, triggering anger both on and off the field.
According to Leagues Cup rules, spitting at someone carries a minimum six-game suspension. The tournament’s Disciplinary Committee is expected to look into the incident promptly, putting the veteran forward at risk of significant consequences. The celebration of Seattle’s second international trophy could be overshadowed by Suárez’s actions.
