Argentina’s U20 team, led by Diego Placente, is facing a setback before the World Cup in Chile, according to TyC Sports. Bayer Leverkusen announced that they will not release Claudio Echeverri, a decision supported by Manchester City, which holds his contract.

Simon Rolfes, sporting director of Leverkusen, stated, “We are going to need the player. He stays. That is our opinion and also City’s.” This news is a blow to Argentina’s coaching staff, who were counting on Echeverri’s contribution in the tournament, especially after losing Exequiel Palacios to a long-term injury.

Despite these challenges, the federation is hopeful for a deal. Negotiations are ongoing for Julio Soler, with Bournemouth likely to allow his release, and talks with Genoa are in progress to gain permission for Valentín Carboni.

However, some situations seem settled. Real Madrid has confirmed that they will not release Franco Mastantuono. “If it depends on us, he stays with us,” said coach Xabi Alonso. Additionally, Borussia Dortmund has decided not to let Aaron Anselmino go, and Benfica will retain Gianluca Prestianni.

This uncertainty complicates the squad planning for Argentina, leaving Placente waiting for any last-minute updates before he finalizes his team selection.
