Liam Rosenior is pleased that Reece James has signed a new contract with Chelsea, calling him the “best player in the world in his position.”
The captain of Chelsea had under 18 months left on his previous deal, and the new contract fits the club’s “incentivised wage structure,” as reported by The Athletic.
Rosenior mentioned that James “had many opportunities” to leave Stamford Bridge, indicating that his choice to stay shows the club is heading in the right direction.
Liam Rosenior celebrates Chelsea’s new deal for Reece James
“I can’t stop smiling because we’ve secured the best player in the world in his position,” the Chelsea manager said before the upcoming match against Newcastle United.
“He had many chances to leave the club. It’s not just about the club’s size, but also his belief in what we’re doing and where we want to go. We’ve talked a lot about it.
“For him to sign a deal and trust us is a big step.”
When asked why he thinks James is the best right-back globally, Rosenior replied: “Do I really need to explain that when you see him play? Watching Reece from a distance is impressive. He can play in various positions, score goals, and defend well.”
“What impresses me most is his humility. That’s why he’s having a successful career as Chelsea’s captain. He will lead us for as long as I’m here.”
“It has been great working with him the past two and a half months.”
