This weekend, a new feature will debut in Ligue 1. During the matches between Paris FC and Rennes on Friday at 8:45 PM IST, and OL and PSG on Sunday at 8:45 PM IST, central referees will be equipped with mounted cameras, known as “ref cams,” according to L’Équipe. This initiative, requested by the broadcaster Ligue 1+, aims to provide viewers with an unprecedented immersion into the action. The technology used is the same as that employed during the recent Club World Cup.
The footage captured will not be broadcast live but will be used to enhance reports and shows focused on officiating and on-field activities. This marks a first for the French championship and could lead to a more regular use of “ref cams” to bring fans closer to the emotions and decisions of the referees.
