Gary Lineker has humorously suggested that Kobbie Mainoo should consider legal action against former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim for ‘wasting a year of his career’.
Mainoo had difficulty gaining recognition under Amorim at Manchester United and was close to leaving the club before Amorim was dismissed last month.
Since then, he has thrived under interim manager Michael Carrick, helping the team secure four straight league victories. Mainoo particularly impressed in the recent win against Tottenham, prompting discussions about a potential England recall next month.
On The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker lightheartedly mentioned that Mainoo might want to sue the former manager for not giving him enough playing time.
“Honestly, if I were Kobbie Mainoo, I might be thinking about suing him [Amorim],” he said.
“He lost a year of that kid’s career. This kid is an exceptional footballer. He plays effortlessly.
“He consistently seeks the ball, handles it well under pressure, and makes the right choices. He has a natural elegance on the field.
“It’s been truly harmful to his career.
“If he isn’t selected for the World Cup team… but I believe he will be if he stays healthy and maintains his form, because he’s an outstanding player.”
